Lisbon

Easily one of our favourite short and inexpensive yet romantic breaks, from the centre of Lisbon with its architecture to the fairytale palaces in Sintra. The expenditure is minimal yet the experience was priceless!

Here are Syl & Sarah’s Top Tips for Lisbon:

1.Santa Justa lift. Where can you find a lift that’s also a tourist attraction? #lisbon Santa Justa lift connects the lower streets of the Baixa with the higher Largo do Carmo (Carmo Square). Take this to the top, worth the trip !

2.Praça de Comércio & Beach. We loved walking these streets of Lisbon’s most important square which was for decades Lisbon’s main entrepôt, and crucial for its maritime trade. Now it’s still as majestic whilst surrounded by a beautiful beach and plenty of activity.

3.Sintra!!!! Set aside a whole day to visit Sintra, an aristocratic cool and musty retreat from Lisbon, even for the royals! Boasting stunning colourful fairytale palaces!

4. Guarding the entrance to the city’s harbour is the Belem Tower. If you are visiting over a weekend, choose a time when there mass is hoping on because you’ll be able to go into the church without a queue and see it in its full glory as a church rather than a museum.

5. Visit Alfama for beautiful cobbled streets lined with quaint shops and full of architecture and history, home to iconic city attractions like St George’s castle, Se Cathedral and Feira de Ladra.
