What do you know about Egypt? It’s home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations and the 29th largest country in the world by area with more than 82 million inhabitants.

Many dream about visiting the Pyramids of Egypt, but there’s so much more than Pyramids to explore and see.

Over the last 8 years, we’ve visited 4 times, and at one point the hotel became so much like home and the staff like family so much so that the connections we made out there were sending us social media messages telling us our Christmas room was ready!

Here are 5 fun facts about Egypt:

1. THE EGYPTIANS INVENTED THE CALENDAR AS WE KNOW IT -365 DAYS A YEAR

To predict the yearly floodings of the Nile river, it was the ancient Egyptians that introduced the 365-days a year calendar.

2. THE WORLD’S OLDEST DRESS WAS FOUND HERE. 5000 YEARS OLD

Not Hong Kong, Madrid, France or even New York, it’s Egypt that may actually be home to the world’s first fashion house.

3. THE MOST POPULAR SPORT IN EGYPT IS FOOTBALL

Egyptian football is epic! Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC, rival teams both playing at Cairo International Stadium. The derby is known as the Clasico El-Arab.

4. EGYPT HAS MORE THAN 3451 HOURS OF SUN EACH YEAR

Aswan is the third sunniest place in the world with 3863 hours of sun each year, that’s 10 hours of sun a day!

5. Cats

Cats were considered to be a sacred animal by the Ancient Egyptians. It’s thought that most families kept a cat as a pet, which they believed would bring the household good luck!

Ps. You must visit the old market for some brilliant bargains and there’s so so much to do from Cairo Pyramids, Quad biking, parasailing, speedboat, air balloon, sunrise at the top of Mount Sinai, the list goes on…(sorry couldn’t help ourselves) 😜
