So since the flights from the UK were banned from flying to Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, we couldn’t go back there as we hoped to in 2019 because the only options were indirect and long!.
We looked up the best places to visit in 2019 and ironically Egypt was well recommended and with a hope and a prayer and yet slight apprehension, we booked!
Outcome?
Flight was perfectly fine, plenty of security checks in and out of Egypt and certainly a fantastic holiday destination.
Sun, sea, SANDDDDD, Camels, Pyramids and ALL INCLUSIVE for almost half the price you would pay for a Europe trip of the same quality, we would definitely recommend this for your 2019 holiday.
Google will tell you the top things to do in Hurghada but combining both Of our interests (adventure & shopping), if we recommend 4, it would be to go for about a week and do these things:
- Visit Cairo (Museum & Pyramids),
- Do the quad biking or Jeep Safari through the desert with Bedouin tea and show package and finally
- Visit El Dahar markets for local shopping
- Visit Sheraton street for bargain high street shopping

Where to stay?
Hurghada is a lovely destination but from speaking to a number of guests at the airport, the best hotels can be quite pricey but booked well in advance the Steinberger chain are perfect – Aqua Park option for families and pure lifestyle for couples. It’s truly magical and quite new and the hotels are part of a number of hotels on the same street which is lined with some local shops.
Syl and Sarah’s Top 3 tips for Egypt:
- Haggle! Haggle!! Haggle!!! Never pay first price for anything, from Taxi through to souvenirs. Don’t be embarrassed to do it like Sarah is, man up and get haggling!
- All inclusive! Enjoy the hotel facilities especially the aqua park and entertainment, the hotels make an amazing effort for their guests and Nothing is ever too much to ask, especially when you’re all inclusive. Note, the alcohol served will be locally sourced so don’t expect western brands to be included, you may have to pay more for it.
- Go out! With the ambience and luxury offered, it gets tempting to just stay in the hotel resort. Make sure you venture out and don’t be afraid to go out in the evenings. It’s very safe!!! The people are very friendly, just wanting you to have a Fanta holiday and to give to them a good review.
