Istanbul, 2020

What a beautiful city.

I’m undecided as to whether its the people, the culture, the Hammam or the customer service that sets Turkey apart as now one of our favourite places in the world but its certainly up there.

I mean we’ve been to Marmaris and that was a romantic getaway years ago that we still remember and perhaps that’s what inspired the travel but Istanbul was remarkable.

So what we are hoping to share with you is some inspiration.

Why you should consider Istanbul after lockdown:

  1. Christian history: According to historians an Eastern Roman Empire was classified as the Byzantine Empire to distinguish it from the Roman Empire. This empire was distinctly Greek in culture, and was adorned with many magnificent churches including Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s largestcathedrals.
  2. Two Continents in one: Its situated in two continents where its old city is found in Europe, which the modern areas are located within the Asian border and for that reason is one of history’s renowned trade centers and it remains as Turkey’s significant centers for culture and finance.
  3. Ancient and Modern mix: It boasts an eclectic architectural mix of vibrant bazaars, elegant mosques and palaces, Byzantine ruins and stunning bath houses or hammams.
  4. Hammams & Massages:

Do not leave Turkey without having a traditional hammam – thank us later!!!

So, if what you want is a one-of-a-kind adventure, then make it a point to visit Istanbul. The must-see attractions in the city will never disappoint and you will find your first ever trip to Istanbul quite worthwhile, as long as you check out these places during your visit:

  1. Hagia Sophia – we had mixed emotions in this place and once you visit you may understand. It is a fantastic structure with an ornate interior.
  2. Blue Mosque – You can take a tour around this mosque to see its multiple domes, which serve as the distinct symbol of the city’s Islamic past.
  3. Grand Bazaar – Haggling is one of the common activities in this graaaaaaand bazaar where you can find an abundant array of items from spices to carpets, to all sorts of souvenirs, hookahs, clothing and leather goods at a good value for your money.

There are so many other lovely things to do in Istanbul and one of the best recommendations we would give is save up for a 5* hotel in the executive floor and watch them spoil you senseless.

Happy wanderlust
